The Hotell Östra Stranden is still open.
HALMSTAD was the first gig in Sweden on their Scandinavian tour. The had played at Daddy's Dance Hall in Copenhagen, Denmark, the two previous nights. Diskotek Stranden (Beach Disco), located on Badvägen 38, was a very small place, just the restaurant of the hotel Östra Stranden. Sold out with 125 people in the audience. The band was escorted by both uniformed and plain clothes cops. There were no advance tickets available for any of the Scandinavian 1977 gigs, as that's what the band wanted.

The bouncers (fat guy mid picture) were
hitting people for no reason. 		The gig was opened to 18 and older only, but a lot of the audience was younger and got in anyway. There were problems with Raggare expected as Östra Stranden was their local hang out, but nothing happened. While in Halmstad the band stayed at the OK Motorhotell, Vallås (now Hotell Fina Laxen), located on Strandvallen 7. Some minor scandal occured as they throw a few chairs in the pool and messed up the rooms a bit there.

ANARCHY IN SWEDEN '77 (GUN RECORDS GUN 001)
There are two versions of this classic bootleg LP. The first one has a red printed Sex Pistols logo and a safety pin stuck through the upper right corner. This version has a black rubber stamped song list and green rubber stamped album title, label name, cat no and '(live on stage)' on the inside of the folded cover. Bootleg listings usually say that this was made in only 300 copies.
In UNNI DROUGGE'S swedish novel JAG JAG JAG (Forum 1994, Månpocket 1995) there are stories about the making of this LP and her bringing a copy of it to Malcolm McLaren in London. There's also a piece about her giving Steve Jones a blowjob and staying upstairs at Denmark street.
The second version of the LP has the same kind of folded cover and the same yellow labels, but instead of the screen print it has two small purple rubber stamps on the front of the cover. SEX PISTOLZ and SEX PISTOL2. This has no song listing at all and there's no safety pin. This version is said to have been made in 500 copies but it's much harder to find than the first one, so I don't know? I've only ever seen my own copy of the second version.
**UPDATE** There's different versions of the cover for the 2nd pressing. One has a safety pin going through the metal rings on both sides of the cover as on the first pressing. But the rubber stamps are not just the two, this one's got 10 or 12 of them on the front of the cover. No track listing on the inside. This info was supplied by Tony, Newcastle. Thanks! Others are completely blank. All pressings of the LP feature the complete gig.

Songs from Halmstad are also available on a number of other bootlegs and semi official records. TOUR OF SCANDINAVIA (SEX PISTOLS RECORDS cat no:SP3117) is another classic bootleg from Sweden. It's the exact same recordings but with an added bonus of the 4 7'' b-side tracks in their normal studio versions. The bootleg double LP SWEDEN (not pictured) includes both HALMSTAD and STOCKHOLM SECOND NIGHT.
POWER OF THE PISTOLS (77 RECORDS cat no:772) has the first six numbers on side A, but the sound quality is not as good as on the original bootlegs. A documentary film about this gig is in the works by an independant Swedish film company. Release will be in 2004 or 2005.

obvious the photographers focused almost entirely on John.
