CHASE IN SPACE (2006)

CHASE IN SPACE, was written by me and three of my friends, Patrik Söderberg, Roland Nilsson-Hugo and Rainer Holm during the period between mars 1995 to november 1995. During that summer Roland and I built a model of a spaceship that we intended to use in the movie. It had a length of 1.2 meters and has the shape of a cigarr.

It took almost 10 years to finish this project. This was due to a crash of my harddrive. The entire project was lost but with a little help raising some money we sent the HDD to a "HDD-Rescue company". Some of the material, but unfortunately not all, was recovered. This setback costed us a couple of years and forced us to remake some of the stuff. We also upgraded our system to a RAID-5 just to make sure that future possible failure on a single HDD couldn't cause more problems.

THE STORY

Three persons are abducted in the 1970's and awake 30 years later. They find themselves strapped on somesort of a bed with small hoses coming out of their heads. Later they realize that they are on a alien planet and manage to slip onboard a ship that is about to get some more people from earth. They manage to keep themselves hidden during the journey, but eject with an escape-pod just before landing. Their mission: To stop the aliens from abducting any more humans.

There is going to be a lot of REALLY BIG EXPLOSIONS in this movie. We have so far spent over 3000 kr (400 $) for different types of explosions and over 1200 kr (170 $) in blood, latex and makeup.

Don't miss the opportunity to see this movie. It's going to be awesome !

HERE ARE SOME PICTURES FROM THE MOVIE

The abducted people have just returned to earth after more than 25 years in space.

Now they've changed from aluminium clothings to something they are more comfortable with. It looks real cool on them.

This is where I get to play a police officer. A poliseman was kind enough to lend me his clothes for one day. The pants were a little bit too short though.

In this scene I'm throwing out one of the abducted people from the station. Why...well he claims to have seen a UFO land on a hill not far away.

HERE ARE SOME PICTURES BEHIND THE SCENES

This is the prototypes for the Alien faces. They are made of "glasfiber" and clay.

All that is left to do is to make a negative cast of the faces and pour some liquid latex in it.

This is me applying a latex prothese on Jimmy Häggkvist.

Anders Blom tries to apply his mask by himself.

Some fine adjustments before the shootings. The man behind the mask is Patrik Söderberg.

The bottle I hold in my hand contains a highly effective "coma-drug". The Aliens inject this into their victims body.

This is me getting ready for some action. My pal Rainer is going to shoot me with a 9 mm uzi, so I've just attached the squibbs on my torso to simulate the effect.

Here comes a series of pictures that displays the procedure of using a dummy to represent a human who will rip his head off from the recoil when firing his weapon (Helmet-Cannon).

1. Setting up the dummy. A wire from the dummys head is used to make the head fall when the explosion comes.

2. Getting ready for the shot. The guy at the right side has a syringe filled with blood attached to a hose that runs to the dummys neck. When the head comes off, he will pump the blood to the neck so that the dummy bleeds.

3. KABOOM! The head is coming off nicely.

4. Jimmy is putting some more blood on the neck before the closeups. You have to be more thoroghly then because it's very easy to spot misstakes when the camera is closer to the target.

5. More blood is pumped as the camera rolls for the second time. Hmm...perhaps the blood squirt isn't very realistic, but it sure looks funny. And that's what it's all about. Violence BUT performed with a lot of humor.

DOWN: Dummy

6. Now for the impact effect from the weapon. This time we're digging a 1 meter (3 ft) deep hole to place the explosives in. In this scene we use 400 gram of flashpowder with an electrical trigger. The effect is real nice if it's preformed right.

This is a snapshot taken outside the local Police office in Örnsköldsvik. They were kind enough to lend their uniform to me.

7. Incoming! A pretty good blast. This will give the illusion that the "Helmet-Cannon" is a mighty weapon...if your neck is strong enough to take the recoil.

This is only a pose for the cover of the move. This is me (Stefan Lindström).

Another pose, but this time it is Patrik Söderberg.

Blah, blah ...... Jimmy Häggkvist.

Blah, blah ...... Anders Blom.

The spaceship in which the Aliens travels to Earth. I've been using Lightwave 4.0 and Lightwave 5.0 to model this spaceship. There are still much more to do (Add details and define the look of different surfaces), but it doesn't look so bad anyway.
