R�dluvan and a sleigh ride at Gammlia
2003, 2004

Me, R�dluvan went to Gammlia and had a sleigh ride with the horse Helge. This was one of the most happy Christmas experience I had. The horse Helge who pulled the  sleigh. I have no picture in the sliegh because I was alone there. And had nobody to take a picture of me.

I want to tell about  a sleigh ride at the Gammlia Open air museum in our town. This was an unforgettable Christmas memory. We had a lot of snow both in 2003 and 2004.
Varje �r har de julmarknad p� Gammlia. D� kan man k�pa en del norrl�ndska specialiteter i de olika st�nden. I ett av de gamla husen visar de upp hur ett julbord f�rr i tiden s�g ut. Och s� finns en stor julgran mitt p� g�rden vilket �r st�mningsfullt.

Every year at Advent they have a Christmas market at our open air museum. Then they are selling Swedish handicraft, reindeer meat, reindeer skin, candies and cookies. In the small houses they are making handicraft things.

Men det b�sta av allt �r h�sten som drar en sl�de. Minns �r 1997. Det �ret hade det just kommit en massa nysn� n�r det var julmarknad. Allt s�g ut som ett julkort med gnistrande sn� p� tr�den. D� kom det en man med sin h�st och sl�de och man fick �ka i sl�den. Det var en brun islandsh�st. Mannen stod bak p� sl�den och k�rde h�sten. N�r det blev m�rkt t�nde mannen facklorna bak p� sl�den och det var s� vackert. Den h�r bilden tog jag 1997

But the best of all at the Christmas market was the horse and the sleigh. They have sleigh ride every year on this Christmas market. You could go on a sleigh ride for a cheap fee. I took this picture in the year 1997. Then a man came to the market with a brown Iceland horse. There were bells on the Iceland horse and at the back of the sleigh were two burning torches.
Men �ven �r 2003 kom det sn� och man kunde �ka h�st och sl�de. Det h�r �r h�sten Helge som �t lite h� efter han hade dragit sl�den. Det �r en Nordsvensk bruksh�st. Han var enormt sn�ll med folk.

This horse is named Helge and was pulling the sleigh in the year 2003. He was a North Swedish horse.
En till bild p� Nordsvenskan, Helge. Det �r n�got visst med att �ka i en sl�de dragen av h�sten. Man h�r sn�n knarra under sl�den och h�stens bj�llror. Man var helt pl�tsligt i en hel annan tid. I dagens l�ge �r det ovanligt med h�st och sl�de.

Another picture of the North Swedish horse, Helge.  Taken 2003. It was so special to be in e sleigh pulled by a hors. It's like in former times. and you can hear the crunch of the snow under the sleigh and hear the jingle bells.

Det fanns mycket folk som ville �ka h�st och sl�de. Men de hade tv� h�star och senare drog b�gge h�star var sin sl�de och de k�rde efter varandra.

There were many people who wanted to take a  sleigh ride. The were two horsed pulling a sleigh. 2003
Det var kallt den l�rdagen. Och n�r h�sten kom fram bildades �nga runt h�sten vilket syns p� bilden.

Nu fick andra m�nniskor �ka h�st och sl�de och det fanns fortfarande �nga runt h�sten och sl�den vilket ser r�tt festligt ut. Och man h�rde hur bj�llrorna pinglade precis som i s�ngen "Bj�llerklang." Det hela var s� st�mnings fullt.

It was cold and there is steam around the horse and the sleigh. I take a sleigh ride every year. That's wonderful! It feels like being in another century. I heard the snow crunching under the sleigh and I heard the sleigh bells ringing.

Jingle bells, jingle bells,
jingle all the way.
Oh what fun it is to ride
in a one horse open sleigh!

In the former times it was common with horses. But nowadays there are no horses drawing the sleigh. You can only see the horse and the sleigh on the Swedish Christmas cards.   2003

Gammlia in  twilight  And then the snow went coloured in blue.

It is dark already at three o�clock in our town in December. But on this picture it was not dark yet. Outdoors it was so beautiful. We got a lot of snow and our whole town looked like a Christmas card. And there were Christmas trees in the gardens with lamps shining in the dark.

When  I walked home from the market I saw the moon. And the snow was glistening in the light of the streetlamps.
