Crocheted Golden Montana Nymphs

[Nr 2 (20) Crocheted Golden Montana Nymph #8]

Above there are 8 examples of flies suitable for Salmon, Brown trout, Sea trout and Grayling (you have to reload this page if you wish to see them all ... f ex the very Crocheted Golden red Salmon Montana Nymph ;-)

    Ingredients (the scanned flies above)
Hook : Usually I bent standard Mustad Salmon hooks 80500BL slightly for the nymph purpose. In the examples above I have also found and bent other Salmon hooks #8, #10 and #12. If you not wish to bend hooks you can use Mustad 80050BR, 80000BR, 80400 or 9672. You can also use the Partridge GRS 12ST, Partridge Bartleet CS10/1, Partridge Oliver Edward K14ST .... or similar.
    Hook size : #4-16
Weight : not lead, use instead brass wire (optional)
    Thread : black
Tail : black fox hair or black trout zonker
Lower part of the body : wind with a bunch of 5-10 flashabou gold tinsel strands on top of body created of fitting material (dubbing, antron yarn or whatever)
Body : crocheted clear/transparent fishing line, diameter 0.35/0.014. Begin with a single knot and then start the crocheting towards the hook eye and stop for the thorax
    Thorax : black UV dubbing
Ribbing/legs : black short hackle palmered over thorax
Wingcase : strands of gold flashabou or gold lureflash. Tie down forward over top of thorax
    Crocheting : description

    More examples :
The same recipe as above but lower body Angel hair or Lureflash tinsel or Holographic dubbing and a why not let the lower part of the body be black antron yarn covered with crocheted blue transparent Abulon Top 0,35/0.014 line. And finally .... less line diameter more crocheting ;-)

Below a picture example how to convert a Mustad 80500BL Salmon Fly Hook to a splendid Nymph Hook .... just bend the Salmon hook !

    Slightly bent hooks

There is of course a Torill Kolbu origin recipe for the "ordinary" Crocheted Montana Nymph. You will find it from this page

Good Luck with Golden Montana nymph crocheting ! ..... and I would gladly receive samples of your own crocheting efforts
