| Express Yourself[1999-01-18]People sometimes stress the importance of being able to express yourself properly. And I think to myself, do we not already haste enough? Is there really need for us to hurry even more?! Because that's what they mean, isn't it? Stressing the importance of Expressing oneself. Sounds very, very much like something made up by Rabbit, the character from the books about Winnie-the(r)-Pooh. Or, have I missed something?! Could it be that actually mean that we need to be able to make our voice heard, and more importantly, to make ourselves understood? If so, I can only agree. But if everyone talks, who will listen? I think that we need to learn both to express ourselves, and to listen to others. Most people can't do any of these things. And if they can, they are usually just able to talk. Not listen. And I believe this is one of the greatest reasons why there are still problems in this world. We do not listen to friends, neighbours, strangers, politicians, etc. And they do not listen to us. Learning to express oneself is really just a question of conquering the fear of making mistakes, and to make sure you know what you are talking about. A lot of people never do. Politicians usually belong in this category. But they are usually so convinced that they do know what they are talking about, that virtually everyone believes them. Learning to listen is a lot harder. It has to do with trust, patience and acceptance for others' opinions or thoughts. Even if you couldn't care less about what they say, a good listener listens anyway. Are you listening to what I am saying now? I'm trying to express myself here. But if you want me to listen, please reply to me. You can always send me an E-mail. I promise to read it... |
