| THE NOTHINGS - A lot to learn CD (AUGUSTOS RECORDS/THE NOTHINGS)It was recorded back in the early 80's, produced by STEVE JONES and originally released as an ep. This CD includes some previously unreleased tracks as well. It's got a very good PROFESSIONALS sound to the music and some of the songs are really good too. If only the vocals had been a bit more punk this would have been really fucking great! Especially WORLD WAR THREE, HORRIBLE SUSPICION and NINETEEN THIRTY NINE are good tracks. You can hear the SEX PISTOLS influences on most songs without any of them being simple rip-offs. This one I can recommend. By the way, these Californians are back together and have just recorded a new record - LOVELY - with STEVE JONES. |

THE REJECTS - more hardcore than channel 5 CD (THE RECECTS)With a name like this I thought it was going to be STREETPUNK/OI! but it sure ain't. This is softcore with ''funny'' lyrics.Safe MTV music from a band that choose to turn themselves into a joke. |

P.A.I.N. - O.U.C.H. CD (IRON MAN records )This is JOHN's (who did the singing on the LESS CD, oh no!) other band PROPAGANDA AND INFORMATION NETWORK.Music wise this is laid back SKA and white man's REGGAE rather than the METAL fiasco of LESS. Not much better and I still don't like his vocal style. And again the lyrics are too much intellectual word plays and no anger or energy comes through in the songs even though they're of the PROTEST kind. The theme of this CD is the UK's drug laws and prison system injustice. 'Grow more weed', 'Rockin cross the border' and 'Super drugs', you get the picture. The cover folds out to a small poster. It's a drawing of a bunch of hippies smokin' and drinkin' and doing hippie stuff in a field. With clowns, new age travellers and fucking wizards. Not for me, I can tell you that. I hate that body painting, stilt walking, group hugging crap. This band is becoming very popular so if you're in the ANARCHO hippie crust community you better start pretending you like this. On second thought, ask around first 'cause maybe they're already too big for you to support, with KATE BUSH letting them sample her stuff and everything. The rest of you - don't bother. |

SLUDGEFEAST - Baby you fuck me up CD ep (SERIUOUSLY GROOVY MUSIC )This is some sort of promo CD with some tracks off their full length album ''ROCK'N'ROLL''.It's pretty ok low fi rock'n'roll with lots of guitars and distorted vocals. The press info sheet mentions IGGY AND THE STOOGES like most of these kind of bands' info material does. The songs are all short which is good 'cause they're not much more than a riff with some random shouts of 'Alright baby Yeah'. They've got the right attitude to playing, now they only need some songs. |
