RECORD REVIEWS PART 1
BURTON-ON-TRENT RECORDINGS LP COVER

SEX PISTOLS - Burton-On-Trent Recordings LP (GET BACK GET56)

This is a good sound quality live recording from Sept 24 1976 at the 76 CLUB in BURTON-ON-TRENT, UK, that's been released many times before. This version does have the track SATELLITE on it, not released on the previous BURTON albums.

It's got a good cover with some rare black and white photos and it's on a heavy high quality vinyl so like most GET BACK records it's got a nice packaging. What irritates me are the liner notes written by ALAN PARKER. They're all wrong:

First of all it says that this version have the songs in the right running order - it doesn't! Compare it to the original bootleg INDECENT EXPOSURE or the 80's release THE ORIGINAL PISTOLS LIVE and you can hear the cuts and missing parts on this new one very easily.

Second; it says that they've included a little ditty they like to call 'P.A. problems' that's not on the other versions - wrong again! Not only was this false start of PROBLEMS and all the feedback included on INDECENT EXPOSURE (both pressings) but it's NOT ON THIS RECORD! They've taken these liner notes from a Burton CD that's actually complete.

That's really a shame 'cause they could have made this record something really good, now it's just another one for the collection. Well, ok, you get SATELLITE, so I guess it's better than some of the Burton records I've got.

V/A - Raised on Punk vol: 1 LP (no label)

This is yet another new ''rare 77 - 83 punk'' compilation job. 17 european punk songs on this one and the best one is MENACE doing 'G.L.C.' and that's not a very rare song now is it? It's also about ten times better than the rest.

It's obvious that some of these comp LP bootleggers are running out of songs. Just because a single was released 20 years ago doesn't mean it was good does it? The bands are CONDOM (Germany), CONTINGENT (Belgium), DE STRAKS (Holland), DISCOLOKOSST (Swiss), MENACE (UK), MOKO (France), JUSTIFI… X (France), PINCHERS (Belgium), RAZORS (Germany), SHITH (Holland), SLIME (UK). SUSPECTS (Belgium), THE BUTTOCKS (Germany), THE REDUCERS (UK) and YODLER KILLERS (Swiss).

There are a few decent songs on this one and some good punk titles like 'Rape Her' and 'Kill the Pigs' but I wouldn't really recommend it.
I like the early (original) Killed by Death, Bloodstains and Back to Front albums, get them before you get this anyway.

RAISED ON PUNK VOL 1 LP COVER

GREED - We don't need your big business 7''ep (STATE GRINDER)

This record is marketed only as a DIY product. It's repeated over and over on the cover and in the booklet like this was something completely new.
I really hate this kind of stuff. The music is crap with the exception of 1 of the 9 songs and that one's got an old EXPLOITED riff ripped off. The vocals are the modern CRUST standard 'dual vocals male and female' done in the boring death metal cheap horror comedy way. Alright, some of you might actually like this kind of music so enough about that.

The ideas and lyrics covered here are even worse. If you present yourself as a political band with an important message you need something better than what's on this ep - tired old slogans against capitalism, homophobia and animal vivisection. All 3rd rate carbon copies of other records. Not one original thought on this one. Oh, sorry, yes they have tried to come up with one new topic - The shooting in Littleton, Colorado (you remember, the school where two kids shot some christian jocks who'd been bullying them for years). This is the most stupid song on the record. They have completely adopted the official media OPRAH talkshow stand on this one - ''It's a tragedy and guns must be banned''. It's even got 'Weapons makes War' (sic) written next to the lyrics!

GREED used to be an alright band when they still had a bit of PUNK ROCK in them, but this is just crap. The cover and booklet have a good design that looks like it's been copied from a HOPSCOTCH ad, but that's it.

Sorry guys but I hated this.

GREED 7'' COVER
AURAL SEX CD/BOOK COVER

SEX PISTOLS - Aural Sex CD/BOOK (STAMPA ALTERNATIVA, Sonic book #19)

This is one in a series of Italian CD books. Others include CLASH, RAMONES, GREATFUL DEAD, STOOGES; CURE and PRODIGY.

The CD is said to be unreleased demo tracks but it's just another version of the BURTON-ON-TRENT gig - six of the songs with the sound of the audience between songs (almost) edited out. Ok, most of the people who buy this kind of stuff knows there's not gonna be some unreleased stuff on it anyway.

The book, 100 pages in CD size, is both in English and in Italian, one column of each on every page. It's got the basic story of the band without too many mistakes, a gig listing and a partial discography. There's a handful of black and white photos you've all seen before and that's it.

It's alright as a novelty item.
