As I mentioned in the ANARCHY IN SWEDEN section, there was a lot of fights between (old) raggare and (young) punk rockers here in Sweden in the late 70's and early 80's. When the Clash played here Mick Jones and Joe Strummer hit them with their guitars. When the Stranglers played here they ran and hid under tables and got all their equipment smashed. They were never punk rockers anyway. Just a bunch of laid-off schoolteachers going off on a Doors fantasy. Swedish punk rock band RUDE KIDS wrote one of the best known anti-raggare songs - RAGGARE IS A BUNCH OF MOTHERFUCKERS Raggare Raggare Raggare Raggare Raggare is a bunch Raggare is a bunch bunch bunch bunch of motherfuckers Raggare is a gang of freaks who often beats the Greeks They drive around in their big American cars Think they are the owner of the town But they aren't They are nothing nothing nothing nothing but animals Monkey, donkey, kangaroo They have no no no no no no no no IQ They are nothing nothing nothing nothing but animals Just like animals The only thing they can do at night is fight fight fight fight fight fight But why why why why why why why don't anyone do something against it? No one dare The cops are scared! No one dare The cops are scared! The chords are B and A repeated over and over again. This was released by Polydor no less. First as a 7'', and in 1979 on the album Safe Society (cat no 2379 178). The band also played in England and released some more 7''s. The records have all been bootlegged several times.
PRE-PUNK ART. This is the 1963 poster Kenneth Halliwell did for his lover Joe Orton's play Loot. A quote from one of Orton's novels was used by Malcolm McLaren on the 1977 Seditionairies punk fashion t-shirt Prick Up Your Ears. ''Reject all values of society'' is another Orton quote that would have fitted right in, in 1977. In fine punk-spirit Halliwell also killed Orton in 1967 by smashing his head with a hammer. Want more Homosexual Murder - Sex Pistols Trivia? Serial killer (and ex-cop) Dennis Andrew Nilsen worked at the Denmark St Job Centre almost next door to the Sex Pistols' rehearsal studio. He never blamed the band for his actions but he did kill the odd punk and skin during his late 70's - early 80's killing spree. Now add a few more of Malcolm's t-shirts and a few ''You cowboys are all faggots'' type quotes and Greil Marcus has himself a nice new coffea table book.
