''Johnny Rotten, singer in the Sex Pistols, have been attacked and cut by unknown men.'' |
This is an article from swedish tabloid Expressen published on June 23 1977. A quick translation reads like this:
By JUSSI ANTHAL LONDON (Expressen) It could become a hot punk summer in London. The Mods riots of the 60's can become a reality again. Members of the punk rock group Sex Pistols have already been beaten up. While the royalist England enters jubilee frenzy for Queen Elizabeth the Sex Pistols are topping the charts with ''Good (sic) Save The Queen''. It's a song that accuses the Queen of being a moron and claims that her regime is a fascist regime. The Sex Pistols are challenging and have caused a big controversy in England. The singer Johnny Rotten was beaten up and badly cut with razors. The group's PR man was attacked on the street and left unconcious with a broken nose and broken legs. Two other young men, who works with the Sex Pistols, were attacked outside a pub in the London suburb Highbury. Following the attacks the group now have body guards. Groups like the Sex Pistols, Clash, Damned, Vibrators and Eddie & The Hot Rods already have aggression and violence in their names. Their bizarre fashion with tight plastic trousers, spikey hair and safety pins have become a cult. In Englandt it is now believed that the mods riots of the 60's are going to be repeated. But even more violently. That was when ''rockers'', Englands answer to raggare, were fighting the mods. They thought the well dressed and snobby mods were girly weaklings. With the violence and blood the Sex Pistols sell more and more copies of their ''God Save The Queen''. The hatred for society, and the Queen, has become a business. Thanks to Michael Karlsmo for supplying the cuttings. |
