Here is a planetary system database. Not everything is accurate, or even remotely current. Some of the comments may suffer from cultural bias :-) A notation of PW means Prewar. EDF evaluation is the ConFed estimate of how well the planetary system can survive on its own. The second number is how important to the EDF the system is. The higher the numbers, the better. A side note: most governments try to entice trained and/or needed personel to emigrate in their system. In quite a few systems, land grants, privileges and technical support are offered. In some other systems, so rumors say, emigration is not always of a volunteer nature. NAME : Aakht Data is : 1 year old Population : 50,000 (65,000 PW) Govt type : Partial autocraty Allegiance : EDF Type : 4th rate colony Imports : About everything Exports : Strategic or rare metals Civil unrest : Discontent EDF evaluation : 2 / 4 Aakht has no habitable planet and most of the population lives on the Aakht-2 planetary base, where the ore is processed. Aakht-2 has no atmosphere, and low gravity. There are also several Zero-G structures troughout the system: for the most part, those structures are there to assist mining operations. While Aakht was not the target of ILR forces during the war, the system has suffered from pirate and privateer raids: the authorities are wary of unexpected ships jumping in-system. Ships are rarely raided, but only because their captains hold a highly imprevisible schedule. System defense is limited to a few aging ACVs and point defense. The system is controlled rigidly by a council (not elected) that supposedly represents Aakht-2 and the stations fairly. In effect, Aakht-2 representatives can impose their will, unless the stations present a united front. The population does not generally like the doings of the council but understands that Aakht must have a strong government to survive. The citizens of Aakht are likely to want to leave the system if they somehow can manage it. The council, however, can stop a citizen it judges necessary to the good of the system from leaving, and usually does so. Goods produced locally are cheap, and the metals there can be had for a good price, but imported goods are extremely expensive. The state controls the medias, but the journalists are not usually censored. The private life of the citizen is, however, well respected, and the population is hostile to intrusive security. EDF personel are generally well accepted. NAME : Uchtany Data is : 3 months old Population : 400,000 (600,000 PW) Govt type : Anarcho-syndicalist Allegiance : EDF Type : 3rd rate colony Imports : Finished products. Metals. Chemicals. Food. Exports : Metals, light ground vehicles, some finished products. Civil unrest : Some guerilla and terrorist activity. EDF evaluation : 4 / 3 Uchtany has one habitable planet (Uchtany) that was, prewar, well on its way to become a secondary colony. The ecology of the planet, while habitable, is not yet sufficiently good for the colony to feed the entire population. There is not one government, but several dozens, each ruling a specific area. While cooperation is generally good, when ressources get scarce, tensions appear. Also, terrorists and guerilleros strikes worsen an already bad situation. The terrorists like to strike at food warehouses, often using incendiary mortar rounds. They also try to discourage traders from trading in the system, but, so far, the diverse governments have always presented a united front and paranoid security to space installations. The populace also takes exception to threats to their food source. The guerilla and terrorist movements are suspected to have been started by the ILR before the war as a destabilizing measure. As often happen with such movements, it lived on and on and on. Uchtany requested EDF troops, but transport constraints and the general scarcity of line soldiers has made it so that only a handful of Counter-insurgency specialists and instructors were transferred. The system boasted several space stations, and a half-finished major refueling station, but the system was one of the initial targets of the ILR in the opening moves of the war. Only one station survived intact, and another one could be repaired, but all others are now derelict, and have been scavenged of useful parts. The planet was also hard hit by ACV strikes on most major cities. Government control of the population and the medias varies widely, but the diverse governments do not generally abuse of their power. The dress code is usually stringent, with partial nakedness a public offense. Danettis, be warned. Also, women may find that the males are overprotective, and most of the population frowns at the notion of women in uniforms. Imported goods can be expensive, and food is strictly rationed. Locally produced goods can be had for a good price, but finished products are not always of the best make. Weapons are strictly controlled, and not generally available to civilians except for single-shot or bolt-action hunting rifles, or shotguns. Ammunition expenditure must be reported, and all firearms have to be accounted for every six months. EDF personnel are welcome, with the locals being annoyingly helpful, trying too much to gain a good reputation and thus entice trained personel to remain in-system once they retire. The diverse governments support this by land grants, and technical support. System defense is limited to old ACVs, with some Ekosiaki postwar ACVs smuggled in-system. The systems even boasts a few interceptors, old retrofitted ore-carriers. While there is a shortage of technicians, the governments invest sizable ressources in maintaining their equipments: the scars of the war are still fresh, and the horror stories of piracy have convinced the government that a good defense was a must. The very rare cases of piracy in the last five years were confined to shipping lanes. Also, the DH270 sweeps the system when it passes in its yearly run. There is a on-again, off-again plan to repair and finish the refueling station in the hopes of making the system a minor space lane. NAME : Zacht Data is : 2 years old Population : 1 million (1.1 million PW) Govt type : Partial autocraty Allegiance : Enchawah Type : Secondary colony Imports : Raw materials, chemicals, heavy industry, some finished products, food, fertilizers, some luxury goods. Exports : Finished products, light armament, CFC reactors. Civil unrest : Population is content and supportive of the government. EDF evaluation : 6 / 7 Zacht-4 (Upschask) and the second moon of Zacht-3 (Inek-Zacht) are habitable worlds with Upschask having a comfortable atmosphere, but poor ecology, while Inek-Zacht's atmosphere is barely breathable, but good for some strains of food plants. Unfortunately, only Inek-Zacht's soils are rich enough for plants to strive on unaided, and Inek-Zacht's surface is mostly undrinkable water (98%). The system currently produces enough food to feed the whole popu- lation, but the Enchawah leaders of the colony are far-sighted and encou- rage innovative solutions to augment and supplement food production: all remember the failed (but not by much) attempt of the ILR to introduce a destructive gene-tailored bacteria that would have attacked several strains of plants. The population is strongly pro-security, and strongly pro-gover- nment, and law-abiding to boot. Use of deadly force against anything but minor offenses, if resisting arrest, is a serious probability. Sentences are heavy, with forced labor for major offenses. The death penalty for grave crimes (such as sabotaging irreplaceable equipment). There are no conventional jails: you either walk out free (with a stiff fine) or go to a labor camp. Despite all this, the law agencies do their best to make sure that only the guilty are penalized. Abusing the law is considered a very serious offense. The government controls almost every facet of life: it decides (by giving choices) where one works and lives, what kind of education one gets, and must give permission for marriages (usually granted). The government also controls all industries of note, and very little is left to private entrepreneurship. Not a fun world, unless you went to state schools... While the ConFed does not like the Enchawah way of running things, credit must be given to Enchawah for a staunch support during the war. ConFed-Enchawah relations are usually good. There is no specific dress code, except for work clothes that have to be appropriate, and uniformed personel is of the spit and polish kind. Compared to them, EDF personel, with their clean, but not usually pressed uniform, look ragged. Enchawah uniforms are also more colorful and good looking, while EDF uniforms are strictly utilitarian. As in most Enchawah system, there is no sexual bias, and women have no problem assuming combat duties. EDF personel are welcome, but often looked at with a smile, and sometimes received with a slightly haughty way. The system boasts a few stations, along with one major refueling station in orbit of Zacht-6. Needless to say, the refueling station is defended tightly, and Inek-Zacht is a strongly restricted area (warning is not always given before the weapons are fired). Trade is heavy with about 5 heavy freighters a year (of course, nothing compared to pre-war trade). System defenses include aging but well maintained pre-war ACVs, quite a few Ekosiaki ACVs (Ekosiak trades ACVs for ACV CFC reactors), several purpose-made interceptors, and, at all times, two jump-capable escort ships. The refueling station is often used by Enchawah and EDF fleet units, so there sometimes are true warships in-system. It is actually cheaper for the EDF to refuel at Zacht (Zacht is selling under the production cost in the hopes of attracting EDF fleet units in-system). All stations have *heavy* point defenses. Despite all this, pirates and privateers sometimes try their luck against shipping in the hopes of capturing CFC reactors. Oh! Did I mention that almost a fourth of the CFC reactors in known space are produced here?
