Time has not permitted an easy solution, but I sat down, got a tall glass of.. um.. water (heh heh), and decided it was time! If anyone has any ideas, suggestions, etc, please email me. For anyone who thinks they could build it (and can read Swedish since there is currently no translation for the User's Manual available), here are the specifications: - MIDI IN functionality: note on, note off, all notes off, bend wheel, mod wheel, program change, sustain pedal, chord memory pedal, arpeggio switch, clock, start and stop (for the arpeggiator), sysex program dump, mode messages, active sensing. - MIDI OUT functionality: note on, note off, all notes off, bend wheel, mod wheel, program change, sustain pedal, chord memory pedal, arpeggio switch, sysex program dump, active sensing. - Individually selectable MIDI in and out channels 1..16. Omni on/off, local on/off and poly/mono mode messages received. - Arpeggiator can sync to MIDI clock at one of eight different clock rates. Arpeggiated notes sent over MIDI OUT. - Expands memory to 128 programs, grouped in 4 groups (1..4) of 4 banks (A..D) of 8 programs (1..8). Tape dump upgraded (and compatible with the original 32 program format) - Edit recall functionality. - Chord memory pedal can now function as sustain pedal (switchable). - Sysex dumps in banks of 32 or 128 programs can be sent and received. - Dual and triple voice capability: up to three voices can be layered on the same note for fatter polyphonic sound. - 8 selectable key assign modes. A Translation of the manual will follow (eventually, our sources tell us =) _____ |___ / =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= |_ \ Sounds.. Email: zhentil@qnx.com _ _ | || | =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= | || |_ Quick Explanation |__ _| Modulation Generator |_| =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= The Ancient Parchment that is the Poly6 Manual reads: "The modulation generator (MG) is used for cyclical or repetitive modulation effects like VCO frequency modulation (vibrato); VCF cut-off frequency modulation (waa-waa); and VCA amplitude modulation effects (tremolo)." Now, one should question, what the hell does that mean? I'll attempt to explain the vast part of the poly6, the MG. Let's get the easiest facet of the MG out of the way.. delay.. Delay is the amount of time before the MG kicks in after you press a key. If you set the delay to its lowest setting, the MG effects will work as soon as you press a key. The maximum amount of wait is 8 seconds, although the knob says 10. The Level setting controls the depth of the effect itself. The higher the level is set, the more distinguishable the effects will be. The Frequency setting controls how fast the cycle of the effect is. At its lowest setting, the cycle is 1 per every 30 seconds. At its maximum, it is 50 cycles per second. Now to explain the heart and soul of the MG, the actual effects.. VCO: The VCO adds vibrato, the shaking of the notes played to put it non technically. I personally barely ever use this setting on the poly6, since the MG Wheel on the side does the same thing and can easily be used in conjunction with other effects and turned off quicker. VCF: The VCF adds a waa-waa effect. This is related to the VCF controls located northeast of the MG. VCA: The VCA adds tremolo, which is the fading out and in of the volume. Next Issue: VCO and possibly a special request.
