I will try my hardest to make this an easy and helpful list. Just send your tips/methods/suggestions to poly6-list@cornflakes.pair.com! To recap what has been discussed, I will put the most notable stuff in this news letter. ____ |___ \ =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= __) | MIDI Modification info.. / __/ and alternatives? |_____| =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= MIDI implementation? It's possible, but is it reliable? Everyone I know who has gotten this modification says their occilators no longer work properly and the sound just doesnt produce the same tone. Not worth it, in my opinion, and the poly6 is truly a delicate and sensitive beast! If you MUST desecrate that which is holy, a Korg technician or a retrofitting expert can probably pull off this mod for $100 USD. Expensive for something that could in fact ruin your synth. Alternatives? Everyone is trying to find alternatives for actually PLAYING their synths! I understand, all those knobs to turn, heh heh. There's a built in Arpeggiator and there is a trigger (can be triggered from a drum machine with any jack-xxxx interface) in the back. Playing the synth manually is an unpracticle thing, especially if you use it for live performance. Feel free to post your methods. _____ |___ / =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= |_ \ Sounds.. Patches.. ___) | Programs.. |____/ =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= This section will be a constant. Any new patches/programs/sounds created/shared/discovered will be put here. After all, imitation is the highest form of flattery. Just to tweak the sound perfectly, it won't be unoriginality to use the patches placed here. My Poly6 is sadly being fixed now, but I will have it by the end of this week. I can only recall one patch right away fully. Zap sound - to be sampled into a drum machine or to be triggered from the arp. Source: Saw wave VCF EG MG: Off Cutoff: 0 Attack: 0 Resonance: 10 Decay: 4 Basically the purpose is just to be EG Intensity: +5 Sustain: 0 a small zap-like drum. Sounds very KBD Track: 0 Release: 0 good when triggered quickly in two's. _ _ | || | =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= | || |_ Quick Explanation |__ _| Envelope Generator |_| =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= The purpose of the Envelope Generator (EG) is to alter the volume of the sound over a period of time. There are four components: Attack, Decay, Sustain, and Release. The following chart shows how each of these occur over time: | * | *|** Volume | * | *** Level |---*-|-----*******--- | * | | |* | * | | | ** | * | | | ** |__*__|_____|_____|_____* A D S R As shown in the chart, Attack is how long it takes the sound to evolve into full volume. Decay controls the amount of time it takes to reach the sustain pitch. Sustain is basically what pitch the note stays at when you hold in the key. Release varies the length of the time it takes to fall from the sustain level to 0 after the key is released. Higher numbers produce longer release times. Remember, to get the perfect tone, experiment! Most analog synthesizers have this basic scheme for envelope generators. Some are graphical, while others are knob driven such as the poly6.
